Assistance to the
Government of Azerbaijan on counter-trafficking
issues
Technical assistance on different
Counter Trafficking issues is provided to the
Government of Azerbaijan on an ongoing basis by the
members of the International Working Group on
Trafficking in Persons (International TiP WG)
composed of IOM, the US Embassy and the OSCE. With
the technical assistance from the International TiP
WG the Government has established a Special
Anti-trafficking Police Unit within the Ministry of
Internal Affairs to deal with Counter Trafficking
issues. In October 2006 the Government has opened
the first shelter for victims of trafficking in
Azerbaijan, in the capital city of Baku. The shelter
provides victims of trafficking with short-term care
and access to legal, medical, and psychological
services. The Government plans to open a national
toll-free hotline in the near future.
Public service announcement
has been produced and broadcasted in the
framework of the project “Secondary school
education in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia to
contribute to the prevention of trafficking in
persons”.

Individuals considering migrating for whatever
purpose or destination should take extreme
caution in dealing with internet offers or email
marketing. If you see any offers using IOM's
name or referring to IOM, please inform your
nearest IOM office.
